Robinson (Harvard, A.B. 1887; Strassborg, Ph.D. 1889) became assistant to Sereno Watson at Gray Herbarium at Harvard, 1890-1892 and Curator after Watson's death in 1892. His published works include a revised edition of Asa Gray's Manual (1908), Flora of the Galapagos Islands (1902) and contributions to Gray's Synoptical Flora of North America (1895, 1897). Fernald (1873-1950) was educated at Maine State College and at Lawrence Scientific School, Harvard (S.B. 1897). He served as an assistant at the Gray Herbarium, 1891-1902; as Curator, 1935-1937; and as Director, 1937-1947. He also taught botany at Harvard as instructor, 1902-1905; assistant professor, 1905-1915; and Fisher Professor of Natural History, 1915-1947.
